Test Plot
The test plot committee is a group of students that manages a 17-acre plot that is rotated from beans to corn every year, that is located south of the school. The test plot committee is partnered with Jim Lafrenz and Jason Spain, Agronomists from Pioneer. The committee performs different soil tests and plants different varieties/hybrids of corn and beans to see and learn what kind of seeds work best for farmers. The committee is composed of 10 FFA members that make decisions on what to plant when to plant, who to get to harvest, and how to market the crop. Each year the committee holds a test plot appreciation night to thank sponsors and talk through what is going on in the plot thus far. The test plot is sponsored by the local co-ops and agricultural businesses in the DeWitt community.
